A number of formal papers examine the relationship between Middle Eastern religions, Frankl’s life, Logotherapy and Hope. Importantly, Joseph B. Fabry discussed his interaction with Frankl in his paper Logotherapy and Eastern Religions. Michael Holzer and Klaus Haselböck retraced Frankl’s Austrian climbs and provide insight into Frankl’s climbing environment, partners and its influence on the refinement of Logotherapy in Berg und Sinn. I will also discuss my thoughts on Taoist thinking and mindfulness and will share photos and haikus taken and written on my daily journey to work on my bicycle to discover beauty, meaning and purpose in everyday life.
Educational Objectives
- Participants will be introduced to the role Eastern religions played in the development of concepts in Logotherapy
- Participants will be able to appreciate the influence of climbing and mountaineering on Frankl’s life, his ability to survive concentration camps, and the refinement of Logotherapy
- Participants will be exposed to mindfulness and through it Embrace Hope through the Taoteching, photographs and haikus that help us discover meaning and purpose in everyday life no matter how difficult the circumstances may be.
